I saw the Pierre Cardin Future Fashion exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, and loved his fascinating future-forward clothes.
Cocktails at the Norm
The exhibit was very dimly lit, to protect the fabric, so unfortunately these photos are all somewhat dark. Anyway, I thought it was worth the trip to Brooklyn, because it’s a fun outing to go there and have lunch first at the Norm, which I did with my friend Sally. The Norm usually has a menu that goes with the theme of the exhibit, as well as art-themed cocktails!
Hats!
Ever since I met Linda Zagaria, I’ve been interested in hats. Halston began his career designing hats at Bergdorf’s. Cardin has designed some very groovy hats as well!
This one is my favorite!
Be a Cardin, not a Halston!
The Cardin exhibit was interesting in the context of having seen the Halston film several times—to learn how Cardin succeeded where Halston failed in terms of ready-to-wear and expanding to designing other items beyond clothes.
Clearly, Cardin was a more savvy business person than Halston. So pay attention, readers! Whatever field your aspirations lean towards, know the basics of business:
- bookkeeping
- taxes
- contract negotiation
- balancing your checkbook
- managing credit
Never trust anyone else to do this for you. I’m serious! No one else has your interests at heart more than you. And unfortunately, there are a lot of wolves out there who don’t hesitate to take advantage of the uninformed.
